About Maihar Heritage Palace

Few Words

Maihar Palace & Fort:
Maihar offers two experiences: for tourists seeking wildlife and nature in nearby reserves like Panna, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha, or for pilgrims visiting the sacred Goddess Maa Sharda temples. Maihar Heritage Palace is just 1 to 1.5 kilometers from the famous Maihar Temple, offering guests easy access to this spiritual landmark. Music lovers can enjoy the Maihar Band’s compositions, descendants of Baba Alaudin Khan and H.H. Maharaja Brijnath Singh Ju Deo’s Maihar Gharana. Visitors can indulge in bird-watching, stargazing, and exploring the palace in a serene atmosphere. The best time to visit is October to February.

Founded in 1770 by Shri Benl Singh Ju Deo, Maihar was originally a Chandela fort from the 14th century, showcasing Bundelkhand architecture. The fort, with two sections (Moti Mahal and Hathi Mahal), spans 834,850.4 sqft, housing over 300 rooms. Extended in the 20th century by Maharaja Brijnath Singh Ju Deo, the palace blends eastern and western styles, featuring Italian marble, Burma teak, and a 100ft-high Darbar Hall with canvas paintings by Shri T.K. Mitra. The palace also includes a music room for the renowned Maihar Gharana and a garden with a lake, home to diverse bird species.
